About Ind 133: |
Most road numbers in Indiana have one corridor or stretch of road they inhabit, and once they're decommissioned they're forever left off the maps. This number, even though it's been long retired, is an exception which owes its special status to the expansion of the U.S. route system. The first iteration of Indiana 133 ran along the Ohio river as a branch of Indiana 33. When US 33 was commissioned through Indiana in the east-central and north-central portions of the state, Indiana 33 and 133 were respectively resigned as Indiana 11 and 111. The second iteration of Indiana 133 ran over a portion of the Lincoln Highway that went from where US 33 turned off the Lincoln Highway to go through southern Elkhart (note: US 33 always went through the southern part of Elkhart). This route lasted from the early forties until the mid sixties. |
