About US 112:

During its short life in Indiana, US 112's western terminus moved around quite a bit. At one point (during its greatest extent, ironically enough) it was shown on maps as US 112S (probably with the assumption that the road to New Buffalo would be labeled US 112N once the stretch between US 112 and Niles was paved); but that was probably as popular as the US 60N/60E idea was in 1926. In the end, US 112 was responsible for two things in Indiana: US 20 going to (near) Rolling Prairie via New Carlise instead of straight across (on Ind 2), and Elkhart's western bypass (now Indiana 19).

About Ind 112:

Indiana 112 was a much more stable presence, outlasting US 112. After US 112 was redirected from Elkhart to north of New Buffalo, the stretch of road between US 20 and Indiana 19 to the north and west of Elkhart was renamed Indiana 112, to keep the identity close enough to the original. Even today, you can find recent maps which show Indiana 112 bypassing Elkhart.

Notice:

If there are any pictures shot in Indiana with the old US 112 sign on them, Scan and send them and I will post them NO MATTER WHERE THEY WERE TAKEN. Double that for photos with US 112S signs.

This photo is the view west on Lincolnway looking at the intersection with Indiana Street in LaPorte. This would have been the end of US 112S.

1935-36 Terminus for US 112/ Historic Terminus for Indiana 112:
West of Elkhart

The final incarnation of US 112 in Indiana started here, at the intersection with West Lexington Avenue, then US 20. Here 112 goes straight, then turns left to merge with Nappanee Street (now Ind 19).

This is looking down what would have been US 112 to its meeting with West Lexington Avenue, then US 20. US 20 would have come from the left, and gone straight from its meeting with US 112.
